Liverpool are considering a move for Oihan Sancet in the summer as Arne Slot wants to strengthen his attacking areas.
According to Fichajes, Oihan Sancet features on Liverpool’s list of targets from La Liga ahead of the summer. Arne Slot is keen to strengthen his attacking ranks in the close season, with the Athletic Club attacking midfielder one of those considered a big player of interest.
Oihan Sancet was a name on the list of many clubs over the last two windows, with some Premier League sides even considering a move in January. However, the attacking midfielder could be earmarked to make a big move in the summer when he will have some big suitors lining up for his signature.
Aston Villa have him on their list for the summer, as he has been featured on Unai Emery and Monchi’s minds for some time now. Manchester United are also keen to sign him, while Liverpool have reportedly made their interest known in the 24-year-old mainstay at Athletic Club.
Liverpool are now eager to land Sancet as part of their summer spending spree, as Arne Slot looks to shape the attacking setup as per his specifications. The Dutch manager wants to make changes that could see a host of players arrive, as well as plan for the possible departure of talisman Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool’s interest in Sancet is not directly linked with replacing Salah but adding variety to the attacking side of the squad. The Spaniard will cost a big fee, as his release clause at Athletic Club remains unclear at this point, and any move will depend on Liverpool’s ability and willingness to pay big.
Where does Oihan Sancet fit in at Liverpool?
Liverpool are not short of attacking midfielders in their squad, as Dominik Szoboszlai is their first choice there with Curtis Jones the close second choice. Alexis Mac Allister can also play in the no.10 role, although the interest in Sancet seems like Arne Slot could revert to a 4-3-3 setup with the 24-year-old mainstay operating in a role on the left or right side of the midfield three.
There will be questions about whether Liverpool will offload one of Szoboszlai or Jones should they sign Oihan Sancet, although that may not be the case.
