Victor Osimhen wages might complicate Manchester United move

Victor Osimhen might not be a straightforward target for Manchester United due to his aspirations to play in the UEFA Champions League and wage demands.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Nigerian international has emerged as a target, although his wages and aspirations to play in the UEFA Champions League might complicate matters for the Premier League club.

The rise and rise of Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has been one of the best strikers in the world in the last few years. The African attacker represented well-known clubs like VfL Wolfsburg and LOSC Lille before rising in prominence at SSC Napoli. He became a prolific striker during his spell with the Partenopei, and he helped deliver the elusive Serie A title to the Italian club.

The 26-year-old has been on loan with Galatasaray since last summer, and he has been exceptional thus far for the Turkish giants. Osimhen has contributed to 24 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 19 times and providing five assists.

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s exploits for Galatasaray have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. While the Turkish champions are eager to complete a permanent move for the Nigerian international, Manchester United will aim to beat the competition to his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Victor Osimhen is understandable. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled in the 2024/25 season, with the two strikers not even scoring ten goals in the Premier League between them. So, Manchester United can do with a striker heading into the summer transfer window, with Osimhen emerging as a viable target.

Recent reports have claimed that the Nigerian international is open to joining Manchester United in the summer transfer window. However, Osimhen’s wages and aspirations to play in the UEFA Champions League might complicate matters for the Red Devils.

Osimhen’s current contract gives him £200,000-a-week wages, and he does not want to take a pay cut at his next club. So, unless Manchester United can offer him a lucrative salary. In addition, they must win the UEFA Europa League title this season to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
