Liverpool, Manchester United told to pay £60 million to sign Xavi Simons

Liverpool and Manchester United will have to fork out £60 million to sign RB Leipzig attacking sensation Xavi Simons.

Xavi Simons has only gone from strength to strength since joining RB Leipzig. While his loan deal has been made permanent, he could still end up leaving the German club next summer for the right price. Liverpool and Manchester United are two English clubs that are keen on his signature and according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, they will have to fork out £60 million to sign him ahead of next season.

Simons took a massive risk when he left La Masia (Barcelona’s youth academy) to move to Paris Saint-Germain. While he did not really enjoy his time at the French club, he has made the most out of the spells away from the Ligue 1 giants.

After an impressive spell at PSV Eindhoven, the 21-year-old made the move to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. While he was on a two-year-long loan spell at the German club, they have made the move permanent thanks to his impressive performances.

The Dutchman had an exciting debut campaign at Leipzig, and he has carried that form into the new season. The Bundesliga club made the move permanent in the winter transfer window and as reported by O’Rourke, they forked out £41 million to get it over the line.

While he has just made his move permanent, Simons could still be on the move next summer as some of the biggest clubs in Europe are after his signature. His contract at the Bundesliga outfit only runs until 2027, which suggests he could be on the move in the near future.

Simons could be heading to the Premier League

Manchester United and Liverpool are two clubs that are keen on his signature. The Reds are long-term admirers of the 21-year-old, and they would love to make him a part of their project under Arne Slot. They are looking for their next big star as Mohamed Salah’s future at the club is uncertain.

While Simons is more of a number ten, he can feature on either flank, which makes him an ideal fit for them. As far as the Red Devils are concerned, they want more quality in the final third. Manchester United are looking to part ways with quite a few of their stars next summer, and the Dutch international could be one of their marquee signings to reshape their attack.

RB Leipzig have recently made his move permanent, but they would be willing to let him leave as long as they receive the right price. £60 million could be enough to convince them to part ways with the former Barcelona youth star.
