PSG considering summer move for Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has been linked with a move away from the club.

According to a report from ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing the French international defender. Konate has been a key player for Liverpool since joining them for £36 million, and he is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the league. The player has been linked with Real Madrid as well.

He has all the tools to develop into a top-class player, and it will be interesting to see if PSG can convince him to move to France in the summer. The French International could be attracted to the idea of moving back to his homeland and PSG are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

They have the financial resources to attract the best players and they could provide Konate with the platform to fight for trophies regularly. Meanwhile, Liverpool will not want to lose a player of his quality any time soon. They could already be without Virgil van Dijk next season. The Dutch International will be out of contract in the summer and he has not signed an extension with the club yet. Losing two of their best central defenders in one window would be a devastating blow for Liverpool.

Liverpool must keep Konate

Even if PSG are willing to pay a premium for the defender, Liverpool simply cannot afford to sanction his departure. They must do everything in their power to keep the French international at the club for as long as possible. They will need to build their defensive unit around him if Van Dijk leaves the club in the summer.

Liverpool should look to offer him a bumper new deal and convince him to commit his long-term future to the club. It will be interesting to see if the player is ready to commit his future to Liverpool and stay at the club beyond this season.

Konate is a reliable performer in the Premier League, and he is one of the leaders of the Liverpool dressing room. His departure could affect the squad negatively, and Liverpool must do everything to keep him at the club. Meanwhile, PSG could look to test Liverpool’s resolve with an offer in the summer, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
