Newcastle United rival Tottenham in Igor Paixao chase

Newcastle United will reportedly compete with Tottenham Hotspur to sign 24-year-old Brazilian attacker Igor Paixao from Feyenoord.

According to a report by The Sun, Igor Paixao is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The versatile Feyenoord wide attacker is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth, with the Brazilian winger recently making his mark in the UEFA Champions League clash with AC Milan, tormenting Kyle Walker.

Who is Igor Paixao?

Igor Paixao has established himself as one of the best attackers in the Eredivisie since joining Feyenoord from Coritiba FC in a deal worth around £25 million in August 2022. The South American winger has risen in prominence this season, finding never-before-seen productivity in the final third.

The 24-year-old has contributed to 22 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net eight times and providing 14 assists. The player’s latest game-changing performance came in the UEFA Champions League clash with AC Milan, as he tormented Kyle Walker and scored the match-winning goal in the third minute.

The Brazilian attacker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Feyenoord attacking mainstay, with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Igor Paixao is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window after parting ways with Miguel Almiron in the winter transfer window. With Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy, and Harvey Barnes being the only reliable wide attackers in Eddie Howe’s squad, Newcastle United can do with offensive reinforcement.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the North London club heading into the summer transfer window. In addition, Timo Werner will unlikely complete a permanent move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So, Paixao has emerged as a viable target for the Lilywhites.

Apart from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth will also look to sign the 24-year-old Brazilian attacker. So, it will be interesting to see if an adventure in the Premier League is on the cards for the Feyenoord star.
