Newcastle United remain interested in Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Swedish winger Anthony Elanga from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Anthony Elanga remains the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, they have set their sights on the Nottingham Forest winger, having failed to secure his services six months ago.

The rise of Anthony Elanga at Nottingham Forest

Anthony Elanga has established himself as one of the best young wingers in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in July 2023. The Swede showed flashes of brilliance at Manchester United but did not get the desired opportunities at Old Trafford.

However, the 22-year-old has been a mainstay in the final third for Nottingham Forest in the last 18 months, and he has improved his productivity during his spell with the Premier League club. This season, Elanga has contributed to 11 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net three goals and providing eight assists.

Meanwhile, Elanga’s progress at Nottingham Forest has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across the Premier League. Newcastle United will be one of the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Newcastle United attempted to sign Anthony Elanga last summer before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the Nottingham Forest winger is understandable, considering Miguel Almiron departed from St. James’ Park in the winter transfer window, rejoining Atlanta United.

So, with Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy the only reliable wide attackers in the first-team squad, Newcastle United can do with a summer signing. So, Elanga has emerged as a viable target for the Tyneside outfit heading into the summer transfer window. However, it is unclear how Nottingham Forest will demand to part ways with him.

The Tricky Trees rejected a bid worth £50 million last summer. So, with Elanga improving this season, it will not be surprising to see Nottingham Forest demanding a premium to part ways with him amid his links with Newcastle United.
