Liverpool will not part ways with Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window amid his recent links with Saudi Pro League bigwigs like Al-Nassr.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Darwin Nunez is the subject of interest from Al-Nassr. The Saudi Pro League bigwigs were keen on signing the Liverpool attacker in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The Reds retain the Uruguayan international in their long-term plans and will not part ways with him in the summer either.
Darwin Nunez and his Liverpool limbo
Darwin Nunez has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Liverpool from SL Benfica in a deal worth an initial fee of £63 million in July 2022. The South American striker arrived at Anfield with a burgeoning reputation after his exploits for the Primeira Liga giants. However, he has blown hot and cold in the last two and a half years.
The 25-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his spell with Liverpool but has not sustained that level for long periods. That has also been the case this season, with Nunez managing only six goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Nunez’s long-term future under Arne Slot has been questionable for several months, with widespread reports suggesting a departure might be on the cards in 2025. The Uruguayan international was recently a target for Al-Nassr, with the big-spending Saudi Pro League giants attempting to secure his services before signing Jhon Duran.
What next?
Liverpool did not accept Al-Nassr’s bids in the winter transfer window, with the Saudi Pro League bigwigs failing with two proposals for Darwin Nunez. However, widespread reports have suggested that a summer exit might see the light of day amid his continued links with Al-Nassr.
However, a summer deal will not be possible, with Liverpool ruling out a sale. The report by Daily Mail has claimed that the Reds have imposed a “not for sale” status on Nunez, with the South American attacker central to their long-term plans.
With Arne Slot not rushing to part ways with a player who has produced some game-changing displays off the bench, it is understandable why a summer exit will not materialise. So, it will be interesting to see who becomes the top target for Al-Nassr later this year.
