Newcastle United poised to win race to sign Antonio Cordero

Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of losing the race to secure the services of Antonio Cordero, who will likely join Newcastle United this summer.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Antonio Cordero is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been keen on signing the Malaga CF wonderkid in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. However, the Spanish attacking prospect will likely join the Tyneside outfit amid advancing talks over a pre-contract agreement.

Who is Antonio Cordero?

Antonio Cordero is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. A native of Jerez de la Frontera, the Spaniard has spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at half a dozen clubs and graduating from the youth division at Malaga CF after arriving from Real Betis in September 2021.

The 18-year-old broke into the first-team squad at the Andalusian club in the early stages of the 2023/24 season and has come leaps and bounds in the last 18 months. Cordero has enjoyed an excellent 2024/25 campaign, contributing to ten goals in 24 La Liga 2 games by finding the back of the net four times and providing six assists.

Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Widespread reports have heavily linked the Spanish attacking sensation with Barcelona and Real Madrid. However, Newcastle United will likely beat the two La Liga giants to his signature in the summer transfer window.

A man in demand

Real Madrid and Barcelona’s interest in Antonio Cordero is understandable. The two La Liga giants are always active in the market for high-profile prospects across Europe and beyond. So, it is hardly surprising that the Malaga wonderkid has emerged as a target for Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, Barcelona and Real Madrid will lose the race to secure his services to Newcastle United. The Magpies have advanced discussions with the 18-year-old Spaniard’s entourage, and they are confident of sealing a Bosman move for the teenage prospect.

With Cordero entering the final six months of his contract with Malaga, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club. So, Newcastle United will hope they can quickly seal the deal to sign the Spanish attacking sensation instead of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
