Manchester United eager to sell Antony this summer

Manchester United are reportedly “desperate” to cash in on 24-year-old Brazilian international Antony in the summer transfer window amid his exploits on loan at Real Betis.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Antony does not have a long-term future at Manchester United. The Brazilian international has been impressive since joining La Liga club Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. However, the Red Devils are “desperate” to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.

Antony and his Manchester United muddle

Antony has blown hot and cold since joining Manchester United from Ajax in a deal worth £86 million in August 2022. While the South American winger hit the ground running at Old Trafford, he could not be consistent after a solid start to life as a Manchester United player.

The 24-year-old has seen his stock plummet with each passing season, compelling INEOS to consider his signing “one of the worst pieces of business in the club’s recent history”. The player could not impress Ruben Amorim, with the Portuguese tactician barely utilising him in nearly three months at Manchester United.

The Brazilian international finally got a temporary reprieve by completing a loan move to Real Betis until the end of the 2024/25 season. The former Ajax winger has been hot off the blocks, scoring once in two La Liga outings while winning the man-of-the-match award in both games.

What next?

Despite making his mark at Real Betis, Antony has no future at Manchester United. The Red Devils have been ready to offload him since sacking Erik ten Hag several months ago. The stance remains unchanged, with Manchester United “desperate” to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils hope he continues his impressive performance so that his transfer value rises in the coming months. However, Manchester United will unlikely recoup the £86 million they paid to secure his services two and a half years ago. In addition, the player’s wages might pose a problem for the Premier League heavyweights.

The report has claimed that the 24-year-old Brazilian international pockets £200,000-a-week wages at Manchester United. So, the former Ajax winger might have to take a pay cut or produce performances worthy of joining a club that can afford his salary.
