Liverpool are reportedly frustrated with Diogo Jota’s situation, especially his fitness concerns, amid his links with Arsenal.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool might decide on the future of Diogo Jota amid reports they were considering overhauling their attacking setup. The Portuguese international’s fitness issues have left the club ‘exasperated’, as Arsenal are interested in the forward ahead of the summer transfer window.
Diogo Jota began the new season as Liverpool’s main striker under Arne Slot, and while the opening sequence looked promising, injuries have continued to hamper his progress. Jota has already missed 15 games across all competition, and following his recent return to fitness, he might find himself in a secondary role.
There are concerns within the club over his long-term fitness future, although Liverpool are happy with his output. Jota has contributed to 10 goals this season, which has helped them launch a stunning Premier League title challenge and scale the summit of the UEFA Champions League standings.
The idea that Arne Slot wants to revamp his attack potentially points towards selling some of their existing forwards for new ones. Darwin Nunez has been on that list for some time now, following some drab performances this season, and it appears Diogo Jota is present there as well.
There are some loose links with Arsenal ahead of next summer, but Liverpool will unlikely do business with a title rival in the close season. The two clubs have had frosty relationships in the past in the market. While Liverpool are exasperated with Jota over his fitness, they might end up selling him, but not to the Gunners.
Arsenal may not consider Diogo Jota
Despite the links with Jota, and given Arsenal are in the market for a new striker, they are unlikely to chase the Portuguese international. The Gunners may have other names on their list, including the expensive Alexander Isak and the young rising star Benjamin Sesko.
Arsenal could also target an experienced striker, such as Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram, and they also made a bid for Ollie Watkins in January. This is where the idea of targeting Jota stems from, although, given the Liverpool man’s injury history, the likelihood of the Gunners chasing other names is high at this point.
