Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are considering making a move for the services of Inter Milan ace Marcus Thuram.
Arsenal’s search for a new number nine continues as they look to add more firepower to Mikel Arteta’s team. Marcus Thuram’s consistent performances for Inter Milan have caught the attention of the North London club and according to a report from FCInterNews, the Gunners are contemplating whether to make a move for the French international.
Thuram made a name for himself at Borussia Mönchengladbach before he made the move to Inter on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. He has hardly had any problems settling into his new club. The 27-year-old had an impressive debut campaign as he bagged 15 goals and 13 assists across competitions.
He has carried that form into the new campaign where he has contributed towards a total of 22 goals. The French striker’s consistent performances in the final third haven’t gone unnoticed. While Thuram penned a five-year deal that runs until the summer of 2028 when he joined Inter, there are top clubs that are interested in prising him away.
Thuram could end Arsenal’s quest for a new striker
Arsenal are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature. Mikel Arteta is not happy with the output of his current forwards and he has been on the lookout for a new striker for some time.
Gabriel Jesus hasn’t lived up to the expectations since joining them from Manchester City. While Kai Havertz has been used in the number nine role, he is not an out-and-out striker and has struggled to get the desired numbers in the final third.
As a result, the Spanish manager wants a new world-class striker who can lead their line and help compete with the other top clubs in England and Europe. While they have their eyes on quite a few top-forwards, the Gunners consider Thuram an ideal fit for their setup and their project.
He has a strong physical presence, is good in link-up play and is exceptional in front of goal. While he is protected by a massive €85 million release clause, Arsenal have been monitoring him and they are seriously considering making a move for him ahead of next season.
