Verbal agreement with Joan Garcia not an issue for Arsenal

Arsenal will not have an issue sealing an agreement on verbal terms with 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Joan Garcia remains the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. The Spanish goalkeeper was willing to join the North London outfit last summer, and securing a verbal agreement will not be an issue for the Premier League club.

Joan Garcia and the rising interest in him

Joan Garcia has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga this season. A native of Sallent de Llobregat, the Spaniard spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at RCD Espanyol.

The 23-year-old rose in prominence in the 2023/24 season, playing his part as Espanyol returned to La Liga. While the Periquitos have been in the relegation battle in the top flight this season, Garcia has been exceptional, even though he has managed only three clean sheets and conceded 33 goals in 22 league games.

Last year, the Spanish goalkeeper was in the squad that won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, Garcia’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Arsenal will aim to secure the Espanyol goalkeeper’s services after failing to land his signature last summer.

London calling?

Arsenal mulled over signing Joan Garcia last summer before the deal failed to see the light of day. Instead, they signed Neto on a season-long loan deal from Bournemouth for the 2024/25 campaign. However, it will be surprising to see the former Barcelona goalkeeper completing a permanent move to Arsenal.

So, the continued interest in Garcia is understandable, considering Arsenal will need an alternative to David Raya next season. A verbal agreement on personal terms will not be an issue for the North London club, considering the 23-year-old Spaniard wanted to move to the Emirates last summer.

However, Espanyol will point to the Spanish goalkeeper’s release clause of €25 million to part ways with him. The value will increase to €30 million in the final days of the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal will seal a deal worth €25 million for the 2024 Olympics gold medalist in the coming months.
