Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are pushing hard to sign Flamengo defensive sensation Wesley ahead of next season.
Despite having some significant financial concerns, Manchester United were able to make a few moves in the recently concluded winter transfer window. They have added some much-needed depth to their squad which should help Ruben Amorim get through this season.
The Red Devils significantly bolstered the left flank of their defence by singing Patrick Dorgu mid-season. Now, they are looking to add more quality on the opposite flank and according to a report from Fichajes, United are interested in acquiring the services of Wesley.
Amorim prefers using the 3-4-3 formation where the wing-backs have a very important role on both ends of the pitch. Dorgu is someone who is considered just the perfect fit for the team and they want someone with similar qualities on the opposite flank.
United plotting a move for Wesley
While they already have Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui in their squad, neither of them is an out-and-out wing-back. They are interested in the services of Wesley who has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances in the Brazilian top flight.
The 21-year-old right-back has been a part of the Flamengo first-team since the start of 2023. He already has 110 apperances for them at the senior level and his performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs.
Manchester United have entered the race for his signature and they consider him to be their priority target for the next summer transfer window. While United do admire him, they are not the only ones keen on his signature. Zenit from Russia have already tabled an offer worth €30 million. As a result, they surely have a massive battle on their hands to add him to their squad.
Flamengo are well aware of the fact that they will find it very difficult to keep hold of 21-year-old full-back for long. They are already under pressure following a bid from Zenit but could have an opportunity to raise the price tag if United confirm their interest with a formal offer in the near future.
