Atletico Madrid closing in on Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are on the verge of securing the services of Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Oleksandr Zinchenko could end up parting ways with Arsenal in the final days of the winter transfer window. According to a report from CaughtOffside, Atletico Madrid are keen on acquiring his services and they are close to signing him.

Mikel Arteta played a massive part in bringing Zinchenko to Arsenal. The Spanish manager had worked with the Ukrainian full-back during his time at Manchester City and he pushed for a reunion in North London. The Gunners eventually signed him in the summer of 2022 and he was an important part of their plans in the initial years.

But, things haven’t been that great for him of late. Myles Lewis-Skelly’s exceptional rise has seen the 28-year-old go down the pecking order. He has been involved in just 13 matches this season and has racked up just over 400 minutes of first-team football.

With Riccardo Calafiori also capable enough to feature on the left flank, Arsenal have good depth in that position and they are reportedly ready to part ways with Zinchenko. They are ready to listen to offers for the Ukrainian international with only 18 months left on his deal.

Atletico could land Zinchenko before deadline

While the player initially wanted to fight for a more prominent role in the team, he has accepted the fact that he is unlikely to have a bigger role going forward. As a result, the 28-year-old is ready to listen to offers. Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs that are interested in signing Zinchenko.

Diego Simeone is looking to add more depth to the left side of his defence and the Arsenal star is seen as an ideal fit for his system. Moreover, his ability to feature in midfield could be an added bonus for them. They have been working on a potential transfer of late and are closing in on his signature.

With Mikel Arteta ready to sanction his departure, Simeone’s team have a realistic chance of taking him to Spain. With them fighting for the La Liga title, Zinchenko could prove to be a great addition to their squad.
