Brazilian giants Flamengo edged closer to signing Arsenal veteran Jorginho after technical director José Boto met his representatives.
According to Venê Casagrande, Jorginho could still end up leaving Arsenal in the final days of the transfer window as Flamengo are pushing hard to sign him. The Brazilian outfit are closing in on his signature after having held talks with his agents.
Jorginho’s future has been discussed on quite a few occasions in the ongoing transfer window. While Mikel Arteta is quite happy to have him around and would love to see him continue at the club, the Italian international has been linked with a move away from the club as he seeks a more prominent role.
The 33-year-old was a key figure in Arteta’s plans in the initial years following his move from Chelsea. While he is still an important member of his team, Jorginho’s game time has gone down. He has racked up just over 1,100 minutes of first-team action so far.
The Italian isn’t entirely pleased with the limited game time and with his contract running out at the end of the season, he has been considering his future. Reports suggest Arsenal are ready to extend his stay at the club. But, the player is open to a move away in search of regular minutes.
Flamengo are closing in on the signature of Jorginho
Flamengo are one of the clubs that are keen on acquiring his services. The Brazilian club are looking to add more quality to their squad during their off-season. They want to add a world-class star to their team, someone who can help control the tempo of the game and Jorginho is quite high on their wishlist.
They have taken a major step towards signing him as their technical director Jose Boto has held talks with his representatives on Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro. The talks been the two parties have reached an advanced stage and Flamengo have understood that the path to his signature is easier than it seemed earlier. They are working hard to ensure they can add the Arsenal star to their club before the end of the ongoing window.
