Chelsea, Manchester United discuss Josh Acheampong exchange in Alejandro Garnacho talks

Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly discussed an exchange deal involving Josh Acheampong in the talks for Alejandro Garnacho.

According to a report by The Independent, Alejandro Garnacho and Josh Acheampong might swap bases soon if Chelsea and Manchester United agree to an exchange deal involving the highly-rated duo. The Red Devils want around £70 million to part ways with the Argentine international but have discussed the possibility of including the 18-year-old Chelsea prodigy in the operation.

Josh Acheampong and Alejandro Garnacho: Two of the best young prospects in PL

Josh Acheampong is the latest highly-rated prodigy to rise in prominence at Chelsea. A native of London, the young Englishman has been with Chelsea for a decade, joining the West London outfit at the under-8 level before rapidly rising through the ranks at the club.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed his breakthrough with the first-team squad this season, turning out six times thus far for the senior side. On the other hand, Alejandro Garnacho has been one of the best young attackers in the world since establishing a foothold in the first-team group at Manchester United over 18 months ago.

While speculation has surrounded the Madrid-born attacker since Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag a few months ago, he remains one of the best players at Manchester United. Nevertheless, the rumour mill has created rumour surrounding the Argentine international, with Chelsea among his prospective suitors.

What next?

Chelsea’s interest in Alejandro Garnacho is somewhat perplexing yet understandable. With Mykhailo Mudryk’s long-term future uncertain amid his doping scandal, the Blues need a reinforcement in the offensive unit. So, the Manchester United forward has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

The Blues have reportedly mulled over a part-exchange deal to sign Garnacho, and the latest report has suggested that Acheampong might be in the operation. Chelsea and Manchester United have discussed the possibility of including one of the West London club’s younger players in the arrangement.

A part-exchange deal will help Chelsea drive Manchester United’s asking price of £70 million down to an acceptable figure. Meanwhile, the Red Devils will get a versatile defender who can reinforce Ruben Amorim’s options at the back. So, it will be interesting to see if such an operation sees the light of day.
