West Ham United have submitted a pre-contract offer to 24-year-old LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, a target for Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Angel Gomes is the subject of interest from West Ham United. Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are also keen on signing the LOSC Lille midfielder. However, the Hammers have made a pre-contract offer to the 24-year-old, who has entered the final six months of his contract with the Ligue 1 club.
Angel Gomes and his French journey
Angel Gomes has established himself as one of the most dependable midfielders in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille in a Bosman move in August 2020, shortly after his contract with Manchester United expired. The London native graduated from the youth division at the Premier League club but could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad.
However, the 24-year-old has not looked back since returning from a loan stint with Boavista. The Englishman has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Lille while chipping in with nine goals and 19 assists. However, Gomes will likely leave the Ligue 1 club as a free agent after entering the final six months of his contract, with the situation alerting Aston Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and West Ham United.
A man in demand
Aston Villa can do with a versatile midfielder like Gomes amid the injury crisis engulfing Unai Emery’s squad. So, the English international has emerged as a viable target for the West Midlands outfit. As for Newcastle United, Joe Willock has become a peripheral figure for the Tyneside outfit, and Eddie Howe needs more options in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in re-signing Angel Gomes makes sense. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen face an uncertain future at Old Trafford, with Ruben Amorim ready to sanction the duo’s departures this year. So, Gomes has emerged as a viable target to replace the ageing duo.
As for West Ham United, Edson Alvarez, Guido Rodriguez, and Tomas Soucek have blown hot and cold in the first half of the 2024/25 season. So, the Hammers need more quality in the middle of the park, with Gomes emerging as a target.
The Hammers have presented a pre-contract offer to the 24-year-old Englishman to beat the competition to his signature. It will be interesting to see if West Ham can get past Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Tottenham in the race to secure his services.
