Tottenham have reportedly initiated talks with Brentford for striker Yoanne Wissa as the north Londoners eye a new attacker before the deadline.
According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham have initiated talks with Brentford for the signing of in-form striker Yoanne Wissa. Ange Postecoglou might look for a new strike option to take the burden off Dominic Solanke, although the Bees’ stance remains unclear, particularly with 18 months left on the forward’s contract.
Tottenham have struggled for relevance this season, as their league position gives out a clear indication of the problems within the club. Ange Postecoglou may have wanted to improve the squad using the January window, but so far, the club has signed only goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Defensive signings were high on the agenda of Postecoglou, but recent links to a host of attackers probably give out a different picture. Previously, there were some links to Ajax striker Brian Brobbey, and this could still be an evolving situation in the latter stages of the window.
Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel is also a target, but Spurs face plenty of top competition, notably from Arsenal and Chelsea for the Frenchman. Now, they have set sights on Brentford’s 12-goal attacker Yoanne Wissa, who has had an exceptional season under Thomas Frank. Spurs have reportedly opened talks with the Bees for the attacker, although they must bid more than what Nottingham Forest did a while back.
Brentford rejected an approach worth £22 million from Nottingham Forest earlier this month, as their stance over Wissa remains unclear. Some suggestions point towards an openness to sell, provided the price is right for the player with 18 months left, while others state they would be willing to keep hold of the 12-goal attacker.
Will Tottenham sign Yoanne Wissa?
Spurs are indeed in the market for an attacker, as Postcoglou intends to bring competition for Dominic Solanke. Their pursuit of Wissa is likely indicative of what may transpire for Richarlison’s future, with the Brazilian not seen as a long-term option given his terrible form since making the big move to north London a couple of years ago.
As for Wissa, he might be tempted to make the big switch in his career. Compared to Nottingham Forest, Tottenham are a much bigger side and has more appeal, meaning if the price is right, he could potentially push for a switch to Postecoglou’s side before the transfer deadline.
