Aston Villa in pole position to sign Joao Felix

Aston Villa will be the likeliest club to sign disgruntled Portuguese attacker Joao Felix amid his unhappiness over a lack of game time at Chelsea.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Joao Felix is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans have been scouring the market for another versatile attacker heading into the final days of the winter transfer window despite signing Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund. In addition, they are the favourites to land the disgruntled Chelsea forward this month.

Joao Felix and an unfulfilling Chelsea return

Joao Felix has not been a happy camper since returning to Chelsea, arriving from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £45 million in the summer transfer window. The move raised many eyebrows, considering the West London club’s stacked offensive unit.

Those concerns were valid, as Felix has struggled for regular starts in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season thus far. The 25-year-old has not even completed 1,000 minutes of game time across 20 appearances in all competitions while racking up a solid tally of seven goals and two assists.

The versatile Portuguese forward’s struggles have not affected his stock in the market, with several well-known clubs across Europe vying for his signature. Recent reports have linked Felix with AC Milan. However, Aston Villa will aim to beat the competition to the Chelsea attacker’s signature in the winter transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Joao Felix has been on Aston Villa’s radar for a long time. The West Midlands outfit mulled over signing the versatile Chelsea forward in the summer transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. Meanwhile, the continued interest is understandable, considering Unai Emery wants more firepower in the final third as Jhon Duran closes in on joining Al-Nassr.

Recent reports have claimed that a move to Aston Villa appeals to Felix. That stance is not surprising, considering he has started only three of Chelsea’s 23 Premier League games thus far this season. In addition, Aston Villa can offer UEFA Champions League football this term, which Chelsea cannot.

So, it is hardly surprising that the Villans are in the pole position to land the 25-year-old Portuguese international. However, with time running out in the winter transfer window, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea and Aston Villa can seal an agreement before Monday’s deadline.
