West Ham United strongly-positioned to sign Evan Ferguson

West Ham United are reportedly strongly positioned to sign 20-year-old Irish striker Evan Ferguson from fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Evan Ferguson is the subject of interest from West Ham United. Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham are also keen on signing the Brighton & Hove Albion striker in the winter transfer window. However, the Hammers are strongly placed to sign the Irish striker, with the Seagulls demanding around £35-40 million to part ways with him.

Evan Ferguson and his journey so far

Evan Ferguson has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Brighton & Hove Albion. While the Irishman spent most of his formative years in his homeland, he graduated from the youth division at the Premier League club. Since then, he has shown flashes of brilliance.

However, the 20-year-old has become a bit-part player in the last 18 months, not even managing 500 minutes of game time across 14 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with one goal. That has not impacted Ferguson’s stock, with Arsenal, Everton, Fulham, and West Ham United among his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.

A man in demand

Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal will unlikely sign the Republic of Ireland international in the winter transfer window. However, TEAMtalk has suggested that the Gunners are interested in the youngster. With Kai Havertz blowing hot and cold, Mikel Arteta can do with an alternative. So, Ferguson is a viable target for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Everton’s interest in Evan Ferguson is understandable, considering Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto’s profligacies in the final third. As for Fulham, Rodrigo Muniz faces an uncertain future at the West London club. So, the Brighton & Hove Albion prospect is an option worth considering for Fulham.

However, West Ham United might beat the competition to Ferguson’s signature. With Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio, and Jarrod Bowen on the sidelines, Danny Ings is the only recognised striker in Graham Potter’s squad. So, Ferguson has emerged as a viable target for West Ham, with Brighton & Hove Albion demanding around £35-40 million to part ways with him.

While the Seagulls are open to an initial loan exit, they will demand a purchase option worth £35-40 million. So, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham to the Irish striker’s signature.
