Aston Villa and Villarreal are reportedly close to sealing an agreement over a possible winter deal for 27-year-old Argentine international Juan Foyth.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the winter transfer window. So, the versatile Villarreal defender has emerged as a target, with the West Midlands club close to sealing an agreement with the Yellow Submarine over a deal for the Argentine international.
The rise of Juan Foyth in La Liga
Juan Foyth has established himself as one of the most dependable performers in La Liga since joining Villarreal from Tottenham Hotspur. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner was in a spot of bother over his situation at the North London club, with game time coming at a premium.
The 27-year-old initially joined Villarreal on a season-long loan deal in October 2020 before completing a permanent move in July 2021. Foyth has turned out over 100 times thus far for the Yellow Submarine while chipping in with four goals and six assists.
The Argentine international was part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he has made 18 appearances for La Albiceleste. Meanwhile, Foyth’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe in the last few years. Aston Villa will aim to secure his services in the winter transfer window.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Juan Foyth makes sense. The Villans have been keen on signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window, with Unai Emery sanctioning Diego Carlos’s departure this month. In addition, Pau Torres is a long-term absentee, while Tyrone Mings is on the wrong side of 30.
So, several candidates, including Oscar Mingueza and Loic Bade, emerged on Aston Villa’s radar. However, the moves of both defenders failed to see the light of day. So, Foyth has emerged as a viable alternative, with Aston Villa close to sealing an agreement for the Argentine international.
Aston Villa recently submitted the opening offer for the 27-year-old Argentine international. Unai Emery is keen on reuniting with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner at Villa Park, and the player might feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League after his forgettable stint with Tottenham.
