Arsenal are considering abandoning the Dusan Vlahovic chase and focusing on their efforts to sign ‘top target’ Benjamin Sesko.
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are likely to move away from their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic in favour of chasing Benjamin Sesko. There are doubts whether either pursuit were designed for the winter window, as Mikel Arteta desperately seeks attacking reinforcements this month.
Arsenal fans are no stranger to links with Dusan Vlahovic, as they clearly remember the 24-year-old Serie A star snubbing the Gunners in favour of a move to Juventus. In the three years since, things have changed for the Serb in Turin, as he is no longer considered a clear-cut choice, and the recent arrival of Randal Kolo Muani has given Thiago Motta a different option up front.
Arsenal were once again linked with Vlahovic, with reports stating they viewed the 24-year-old Serie A star as a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners are clearly looking for a centre-forward to take the burden off Kai Havertz, and given the Juventus star’s current sporting and contractual situation, it is very natural to assume the north Londoners are pursuing him.
However, the main story here is about how Arsenal are likely to abandon their chase of Vlahovic and focus on landing Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian, a summer target for the North Londoners, chose to sign an extension with RB Leipzig and stay, although the Gunners are looking to bring forward the move this month.
The Gunners have the funds to sign Sesko, although the ultimate decision will be that of the player and RB Leipzig. There is hope that Arsenal are still on to the case of their priority target, and in that case, they will ease off from their chase of Vlahovic.
Arsenal need a new attacker
The injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have rendered the Arsenal attack thin in numbers, as Mikel Arteta has been vocal about wanting to add to the squad. There are links to Matheus Cunha, with the Brazilian’s situation all the more baffling as he has stalled on signing a new deal and reportedly prefers a move to north London.
Further suggestions point towards an overseas loan, as Arsenal might not want to overpay in January and somehow bring a player that suits their style without breaking the bank. For now, the links to either Vlahovic, Cunha or Sesko seem interesting. Still, these players are difficult to achieve, as it’s anybody’s guess who the Gunners might bring before the February 3 deadline.
