Tottenham have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Angel Gomes, with the midfielder yet to sign a pre-contract with West Ham United.
According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Angel Gomes, with the north Londoners now considering a late offer for the midfielder. The LOSC Lille star has yet to sign a pre-contract with West Ham, which has opened the doors for Spurs to make their presence known.
Angel Gomes could be one of the two big stars to leave LOSC Lille by the end of the campaign on a free transfer. The midfielder has been the subject of intense speculation since making his England debut and playing three more games for the national side in the two most international breaks.
A host of clubs were showing an interest in the 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder, as he had made his mind up about leaving Lille in 2025. Gomes’ current deal ends in the summer, which does give the French side an opportunity to cash in before the end of the winter market.
There have been reports about a pre-contract agreement presented by West Ham United. Gomes has interest in a move to the Hammers, although he has not yet signed on the dotted line, which does keep the door open for other suitors. The Hammers will be pushing to get it done, although there feels like some more room to wait for the 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder before committing his future somewhere.
Manchester United were also keen earlier, with some reports even claiming Gomes preferred a return to Old Trafford over other suitors. The Red Devils have seen plenty of links to the 24-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder but have yet to make an offer, as Tottenham now appear like a favourite destination for Gomes.
Tottenham to make late offer for Angel Gomes
The fact that Gomes has not signed a deal with West Ham yet does give Spurs the required boost and encouragement, as they are now expected to make a late offer. Tottenham are keen to test Lille’s resolve over the midfielder with a proposal that will at least allow the Ligue 1 side to cash in and not let the talented midfielder walk away for free.
Spurs are in need of reinforcements and had been expected to fast-track a move for Gomes, among other targets. The idea of having the England international would be a boost for Ange Postecoglou, although any deal for the 24-year-old is seen more as a market opportunity at this point rather than a necessity.
