Oleksandr Zinchenko poised to leave Arsenal this month

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in 28-year-old Ukrainian international Oleksandr Zinchenko, who will likely leave Arsenal this month.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Oleksandr Zinchenko is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants are keen on reinforcing their left-back options in the winter transfer window, with the Arsenal utility man emerging as a target. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian international will likely leave the North London club this month.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and his Arsenal adventure

Oleksandr Zinchenko has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Arsenal from Manchester City in a deal worth £30 million in July 2022. The versatile footballer was a dependable performer for the North London club in his first 18 months at the Emirates. However, his stock has fallen in the last season and a half.

Fitness issues were the first factor to hamper the 28-year-old utility man, and he was in and out of the starting lineup last season. Things have gone from bad to worse this term, with Zinchenko not even managing 500 minutes of game time across 13 appearances in all competitions thus far.

So, it is hardly surprising that Arsenal might not stand in Zinchenko’s way, with the report claiming he is expected to leave the North London club in the winter transfer window. The Ukrainian international does not have a shortage of high-profile clubs pursuing his signature, with Borussia Dortmund among his prospective suitors.

Bundesliga move on the horizon?

Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Oleksandr Zinchenko makes sense. The Bundesliga giants have been scouring the market for a left-back heading into the winter transfer window. Ramy Bensebaini is the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad, thus necessitating the addition of another option.

So, Renato Veiga was a top target for Borussia Dortmund this month. However, the Chelsea utility man is on the verge of joining Juventus, with the Bianconeri sealing a verbal agreement to sign him on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. So, Zinchenko is a viable alternative.

With the 28-year-old Ukrainian international expected to leave Arsenal, a winter move to Signal Iduna Park might be on the cards. It will be interesting to see if the former Manchester City utility man joins Borussia Dortmund this month.
