Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly submitted a new enquiry to Serie A club Juventus for 26-year-old Brazilian international Douglas Luiz.
According to a report by La Stampa, as relayed by Sport Witness, Douglas Luiz remains the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have taken advantage of their discussions with Juventus for Renato Veiga to make a “new request for information” for the Brazilian international, who has struggled since joining the Serie A club from Aston Villa last summer.
Douglas Luiz and his Juventus jumble
Douglas Luiz has endured a dramatic fall from grace since joining Juventus from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. The South American midfielder was eager to embark on a new adventure at a high-profile club after several fruitful seasons with Aston Villa. However, the move has not worked for him thus far.
The 26-year-old has managed only 550 minutes of game time across 17 appearances in all competitions thus far this term. However, Luiz’s stock in the market has not taken a hit, with several high-profile clubs vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.
Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Brazilian international this month. Recent reports have linked the former Aston Villa midfielder with Chelsea, with the West London club taking advantage of the talks with Juventus over a deal for Renato Veiga. The Blues have submitted a new enquiry for the player.
London calling?
Chelsea’s interest in Douglas Luiz is perplexing. Enzo Maresca has a stacked midfield unit, with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Romeo Lavia being excellent in the middle of the park this season. While Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall face an uncertain future at Chelsea, the Blues do not need another midfielder.
Nevertheless, the Juventus outcast is a target for the West London club, with the Premier League outfit making a “new request for information” for the player. However, the Serie A giants do not intend to accept a loan exit for the struggling midfielder and want to seal a permanent exit this month.
It is unclear if Chelsea will be ready to launch the offensive for a permanent deal in the coming days. However, after sanctioning Renato Veiga’s loan move to Juventus, the Blues will hope to get a favour from the Serie A club in the race to secure the services of the 26-year-old Brazilian international..
