Patrick Dorgu has agreement in principle to join Manchester United, Red Devils set to make fresh bid

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Tottenham target Patrick Dorgu.

Manchester United might not have the best financial situation at this stage but they are still trying very hard to add a few new faces to Ruben Amorim’s squad. They want to give him an additional boost by bringing in players who are a better fit in his system.

The Portuguese manager is desperate to have a new left-wing-back in his team and the Red Devils have been working very hard to sign Patrick Dorgu from US Lecce. According to Corriere dello Sport via Calcio Lecce, the Manchester-based giants have a basic agreement in place with the player’s representatives.

While Dorgu joined the Italian club in the summer of 2022, he broke into their first team in the summer of 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. The 20-year-old has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances and his ability to feature anywhere on either flank.

United are looking at him as an ideal option for the left flank. They want to bring in someone who could suit Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and they consider Dorgu as the perfect fit as he can contribute on both ends of the pitch.

They have been working on a potential transfer for some time and recently submitted an offer worth around €30 million plus another €5 million as add-ons. But, it hasn’t been deemed to be good enough as Lecce want around €40 million (£34 million) to part ways with their Danish sensation.

More importantly, they want to keep him at the club until the end of the ongoing season. Having reached an agreement in principle with the player, the Red Devils are confident about getting the job done.

United’s revised offer and Tottenham’s interest

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Ruben Amorim’s team are all set to submit a revised offer for the 20-year-old. After their offer of close to €30 million was turned down, United are now looking to submit an improved offer of around €35.4 million (£30 million) which is closer to the Italian club’s valuation.

While the Red Devils are pushing hard for his signature and are confident about getting it done, they could choose to walk away if their fresh offer is turned down. Meanwhile, Tottenham are all set to rival them in the race for his signature.

The North London club are interested in the 20-year-old and they have been monitoring him for some time. With Destiny Udogie picking up a hamstring injury, signing a new full-back is one of their priorities and Drogu ticks a lot of boxes.
