Everton, West Ham United make approach for Breel Embolo

Everton and West Ham United have reportedly established contact over a possible move to sign 27-year-old Swiss international Breel Embolo from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Breel Embolo might leave AS Monaco in the winter transfer window. Everton and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors to sign the Swiss international from the Ligue 1 club, with the two Premier League clubs submitting an enquiry for him.

The Breel Embolo story

Breel Embolo has blown hot and cold throughout his career despite being one of the most highly-rated attackers in the world in the past decade. A native of Yaoundé, he was eligible to represent the country of his birth but spent his formative years in Switzerland.

The 27-year-old passed through the academies at three clubs and graduated from the youth division at FC Basel. However, Embolo rose in prominence during his spell in Germany, enjoying fruitful stints with FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Monchengladbach. The player has been with AS Monaco since July 2022 and has endured a topsy-turvy ride in the last two and a half years.

The Swiss international has contributed to ten goals in 26 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net five times and providing five assists. However, Embolo’s long-term future at AS Monaco is uncertain after entering the final 18 months of his contract with the Ligue 1 club. Everton and West Ham United are among his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Breel Embolo is understandable. The Toffees are in a spot of bother over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s long-term future. In addition, Beto might not be at Goodison Park beyond the winter transfer window, with intermediaries recently offering him to AC Milan. So, Everton can do with a new striker this month.

As for West Ham United, the East London club will look to sign a striker this month after losing Michail Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug, and Jarrod Bowen to long-term issues. So, several candidates, including Jhon Duran, are on West Ham’s radar, with Embolo also a viable target. The two Premier League clubs have submitted an enquiry for the AS Monaco forward.

However, Everton and West Ham United are behind Como in the race to secure Embolo’s services in the winter transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Swiss international leaves AS Monaco for one of the three clubs this month.
