Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Brazilian attacking sensation Igor Jesus from Botafogo this month.
Arsenal are keen on reinforcing their attack in the ongoing transfer window and they are looking at Botafogo’s Igor Jesus as a viable mid-season target. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Gunners have established contacts with his agents as they explore a move in this window.
Arsenal’s pursuit of a new number nine
The North London club have been on the lookout for a new number nine for some time. They were in talks to sign Benjamin Sesko during the last summer window. While they were closing in on his signature and were confident of beating the competition, the move didn’t go through as the player decided to continue at RB Leipzig for another season.
Despite not signing a striker in the summer, Arteta was trying his best with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. But, with the Brazilian international picking up an ACL injury, the Spanish manager is desperate for a new forward. Arsenal have made it one of their priorities in the ongoing transfer window.
Their interest in Sesko’s services remains intact but signing him in the ongoing transfer window looks very unlikely because of the finances involved and the player’s desire to continue at the German club. As a result, Arsenal are now considering signing two strikers, one in the ongoing window to cover for Gabriel Jesus and another world-class number nine in the next summer window.
Arsenal plot a move for Igor Jesus
They are interested in signing Igor Jesus from Botafogo this month. He joined the Brazilian outfit last summer after a four-year-long stint at the Middle East club Shabab Al-Ahli. The 23-year-old striker has put in quite a few impressive performances.
He has 13 goal contributions in his 31 outings and Arsenal have taken note of his performances. While he recently made the move to Botafogo, they are ready to sanction his departure for the right price as they are currently in the off-season.
The Gunners have already held talks with his agents and the report suggests they will have to fork out around €30 million to get a transfer over the line. Arteta’s team haven’t made any moves since holding talks with the player’s representatives as they are still evaluating whether he could be the right fight for them.
