Manchester United have engaged in talks with Italian side US Lecce for their versatile wide man Patrick Dorgu, presenting a formal offer.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United have contacted US Lecce over a potential deal for Patrick Dorgu. The wide man can play in numerous positions on the flanks, including as a left-back, with the Danish international seen as a suitable addition to Ruben Amorim’s style as the Red Devils have reportedly presented a formal offer.
Manchester United are eyeing key signings this month despite their evident problems to spend money in the winter window. The broader suggestions have pointed towards PSR issues with spending funds on new players, although the club seems open to signing the right profiles.
A wide player is firmly on Ruben Amorim’s agenda as he continues to find ways to play his preferred 3-4-2-1 style, which places far greater emphasis on wing-backs. Manchester United are ready to let Tyrell Malacia leave on loan this month, which could open up space for a new left-sided wide player.
Luke Shaw is also not in contention following his struggles with injuries, while Diogo Dalot has been played out of position on the left wing. US Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu was a target for Manchester United and now the club have opened discussions with the Italian side over a potential deal.
Tottenham have been interested in the player since last summer, although the overtures from Manchester United might see the player favour joining the Old Trafford outfit. Lecce wants around €40 million for the wide player who can play in all the positions on the flank, including in the left-back slot. While primarily featured on the right wing, he’s seen as a suited addition to Amorim’s formation.
Manchester United make an informal offer
As per a Gazzetta report, Manchester United has already presented an informal offer close to €30 million for Dorgu. Lecce are keen to bring in at least €40 million for the player, although the story insists a €35 million offer plus bonuses could prove enough.
Manchester United might view the €40 million-rated wide player as the ideal addition to their immediate plans, which involves improving one wing. Dorgu could also double down as a wide attacker, which does give Amorim fresh options to approach a game state.
