Everton in transfer tussle to sign Timothy Weah

Everton will compete with Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt to sign 24-year-old American forward Timothy Weah from Serie A club Juventus.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Timothy Weah is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the winter transfer window. So, the Juventus forward has emerged as a target, with Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt also keen on signing the 24-year-old from the Serie A club.

Timothy Weah and his career trajectory

Timothy Weah has made considerable progress since joining Juventus from LOSC Lille in July 2023. A native of New York, the youngster is the son of the legendary George Weah and represents the USA in international football. The American attacker began his youth career in his home city but graduated from the youth division at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the 24-year-old found a stable footing during his spell with Lille before arriving in Italy 18 months ago. Since then, Weah has come leaps and bounds, even though he has not been an undisputed first-choice starter for Juventus. The player has chipped in with four goals and five assists in only 952 minutes of game time across 21 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Weah’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards for the USMNT international, with Everton among his prospective suitors. However, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt are also in the three-way battle for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Timothy Weah is understandable. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the winter transfer window. While Iliman Ndiaye has been solid since joining Everton from Marseille last summer, Jack Harrison has blown hot and cold this term.

So, Everton should invest in a top-notch wide attacker, with several candidates, including Ernest Nuamah, emerging as targets. However, Weah is also an option worth considering, as he can be a top-class addition to the right-wing berth. In addition, the American attacker can play as a striker, adding to his appeal.

While Everton will be in a three-way battle for Weah’s signature, securing his services might not be straightforward. So, it will be interesting to see if the clubs can convince Juventus to part ways with the 24-year-old USMNT international in the winter transfer window.
