Manchester United will compete with Chelsea and Bayern Munich to sign 20-year-old English attacking sensation Jamie Gittens from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jamie Gittens is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also vying for the signature of the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation, but they face stiff competition from the Red Devils to sign the youngster from the Bundesliga club.
The rise and rise of Jamie Gittens
Jamie Gittens is one of the latest highly-rated English prospects to rise in prominence at a foreign club. A native of London, the Englishman spent most of his formative years in his homeland. However, after passing through the youth divisions at Reading FC and Manchester City, he joined Borussia Dortmund in September 2020 and graduated from the Bundesliga club’s academy.
The 20-year-old made his first-team bow towards the end of the 2021/22 season and has come leaps and bounds in the last three years. Gittens has been exceptional thus far this term, contributing to 16 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 11 times and providing five assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting top clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United.
A man in demand
Bayern Munich might part ways with Leroy Sane this year, with the German international entering the final six months of his contract. In addition, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry have seen their stocks fall in the last 12-18 months. So, the English attacking sensation has emerged as a viable target for Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Jamie Gittens makes sense. The West London club might offload Mykhailo Mudryk this year, considering the Ukrainian international is embroiled in a doping scandal. So, Chelsea can do with a new wide attacker, making the Englishman an option worth considering.
As for Manchester United, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony face an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The trio might depart from the Premier League club this year, thus necessitating the arrival of a new wide attacker. So, Gittens is a viable target for Manchester United.
The 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund whizkid will unlikely come cheap, considering his age profile, potential, and contract duration. However, the Bundesliga giants might struggle to keep hold of the English attacking sensation if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
