Chelsea will reportedly demand around £40 million to part ways with versatile 25-year-old defender Trevoh Chalobah after recalling him from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea will happily cash in on Trevoh Chalobah in the winter transfer window. The West London club recently recalled the versatile defender from his loan stint with fellow London club Crystal Palace. However, the Blues are ready to part ways with their academy graduate for around £40 million this month.
The topsy-turvy ride for Trevoh Chalobah
Trevoh Chalobah has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Chelsea. A native of Freetown, Sierra Leone, he has been with Chelsea since he was eight, rising through the ranks at the West London club before making his senior bow a few years ago.
The 25-year-old received his big break under Thomas Tuchel a few years ago, and he has been a utility man for Chelsea. While Chalobah has delivered the goods whenever a manager has called him up, his stock has fallen in the last 18 months, with Enzo Maresca approving his loan move to Crystal Palace last summer.
The former England youth international was excellent for Crystal Palace after coming up to speed and chipped in with three goals in 14 appearances across all competitions. However, Chalobah has returned to Chelsea after the Blues terminated their loan agreement with their fellow London club last week.
What next?
Trevoh Chalobah might start for Chelsea straightaway when the Blues welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Stamford Bridge on Monday night. However, the Englishman’s long-term future at the West London club remains uncertain, as they are open to cashing in on him in the winter transfer window.
While Enzo Maresca was glowing in praise of Chalobah during his pre-match press conference, the Blues are open to parting ways with him if a suitor can cough up around £40 million. That is a sizeable asking price, considering Chelsea reportedly wanted around £30 million for the academy graduate in the summer transfer window.
In addition, it is unclear if any prospective suitor will be open to forking out £40 million to sign Chalobah from Chelsea in the winter transfer window. Crystal Palace will not pay the required sum, so a quick return to Selhurst Park is not on the cards.
