Arsenal looking to bring forward a move for Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal are considering making a mid-season move for their long-term target Benjamin Sesko following Gabriel Jesus’ injury.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could now fast-track their summer transfer plans following an injury crisis in the team. According to a report from The Sun, the Gunners are weighing up whether to make a move for their long-term target Benjamin Sesko in the ongoing transfer window.

Sesko has only gone from strength to strength since joining Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg. He has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances and is considered one of the best young forwards in the world.

An injury crisis at Arsenal

While his contract at the German club runs until the summer of 2029, multiple top clubs are keen on prising him away. The 21-year-old has been on the wishlist of Arsenal for well over 12 months. The North London club were ideally looking to make a move for him ahead of next season.

But, they are now considering bringing forward their summer plans because of injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. The English international underwent a hamstring surgery towards the end of 2024 and is out until March while the Brazilian could miss the entirety of 2025 following an ACL injury.

The two massive blows have caused a lot of panic within the camp and Arteta is keen on addressing the issue by bringing in a new forward.

Arteta openly talked about the need to reinforce his attack, the Spanish manager said:  “We have more necessity now because of what happened in the last few weeks.

“We never just plan a window. We have a plan, we look at the squad, how we are going to evolve it, what we have in the academy, how we are going to change and adapt.

“Either we are really bad at planning or nobody could see we would have that many injuries.

“We have lost two massive players  in the front line and we need some  support there.”

Arsenal thinking about signing Sesko in January

Sesko has been on the Gunners’ radar for a long while. They consider the 21-year-old an ideal fit for their plans in the long run and given the kind of impact he has had in the Bundesliga, the Slovenian could surely bolster their attack in the short-term as well.

The Leipzig star is expected to be on the move at the end of the season but Arsenal are looking to raid the German club in the ongoing window. They are pondering whether to make a move for the £70 million forward in the ongoing window or to go ahead with a temporary loan move.

Meanwhile, Sesko’s agent has suggested that a winter move is unlikely unless the interested club is ready to put forward a massive offer for the 21-year-old’s signature.
