West Ham United are interested in signing LOSC Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes amidst interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.
According to a report from TBR, West Ham United have already started planning for the next summer window and they have their eyes set on Jonathan David and Angel Gomes. The Hammers are looking to challenge rivals Tottenham and Manchester United to the signature of the duo.
Graham Potter who recently took charge of the Irons is looking at ways to bolster his squad in the ongoing window. While the focus is to get things back on track and help them bounce back in the second half of the season, the Hammers have already started planning for the long run.
The former Chelsea boss is all set to have a big say on West Ham’s transfer business and he seems to have already made his first request. He has asked the club’s hierarchy to go after the signature of David as well as Gomes.
The English international and Canadian ace are both mainstays in the LOSC Lille first team but they will be up for grabs for free in six months. The duo’s contract is running out and they have already made it clear to the French club that they will be leaving at the end of the season.
Potter wants David and Gomes at West Ham
As a result, a host of clubs are looking to secure their services. West Ham are one of the clubs that want to sign the duo at the request of their manager. With Michail Antonio and Danny Ings in the final phase of their career, David could be the answer to the Hammers’ problems in the final third.
The London club also seek more quality in the centre of the park and Gomes could help their cause as he has established himself as a deep-lying midfielder since moving to France. Potter’s team won’t find it easy to sign either of them as Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on their signature.
United and Tottenham to rival the Hammers
United are looking to re-sign Gomes who was more of a winger during his time at Old Trafford. They have been quite impressed with his performances in Ligue 1 and are willing to make a move for him.
Meanwhile, Spurs are looking to add more quality as well as depth in the centre of the park and someone like Gomes on a free transfer who can feature in any role in midfield could be an exceptional signing.
The North London club also seek more quality in the final third and a proven goal scorer like David could provide significant competition to Dominic Solanke for a place in the starting XI.
While David is already listening to offers for a move next summer and West Ham are ready to table an offer, United are expecting that they will offered the chance to sign him at some point. With Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho linked with a move away, they won’t mind signing the Canadian for free.
