Richarlison has reportedly told his friends of a desire to quit Tottenham due to his secondary role under Ange Postecoglou.
According to Football Insider, Richarlison is ready to leave Tottenham and has informed his ‘friends’ about the decision. The Brazilian has not shone since making a £60 million move from Everton two summers ago, as the suggestion is that the attacker might even prefer a move to Saudi Arabia.
Richarlison was linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia last summer but chose to stay put at Tottenham to fight for a place. Ange Postecoglou did get a decent amount of goals out of the Brazilian last season, but he’s no longer seen as a primary starter in this side.
Big-money summer arrival Dominic Solanke is the first-choice striker for Spurs, and that could be the case going forward despite Richarlison returning from his long-term injury. The report stated that the Brazilian has informed his friends about his desire to quit Spurs and potentially make a move to Saudi Arabia.
The reasoning in the report is the forward’s unhappiness at assuming a secondary role in the team. He wants to play a key role in the side and believes that cannot be achieved at Tottenham. The real reason for his prolonged absence was a hamstring injury at the start of November, as he will get his chances to stake a claim in the starting lineup.
Previous reports had stated Richarlison was not interested in leaving the club in January, and that might be the case. However, should his stature not improve between now and the summer, the £60 million Tottenham star could decide to quit the club and embark on a new adventure.
Could Tottenham sell Richarlison in January?
In hindsight, the £60 million paid by Tottenham has not reaped the benefits as Richarloison had two below-par seasons at the club. However, they could allow him one last shot at reclaiming a place and becoming a first-choice starter, as he does provide Postecoglou with some much-needed depth in at least two attacking positions.
Recent reports have also linked Tottenham with a few forward options, such as Evann Guessand, Randal Kolo Muani and Jonathan David. In the scenario that they land a new name in this window, it does theoretically open the doors for Richarlison to leave, as long as the price is right.
