Manchester United optimistic of beating Arsenal to Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are confident about winning the race for the services of Viktor Gyokeres amidst interest from rivals Arsenal.

According to a report from the Independent, Manchester United remain optimistic about securing the services of Viktor Gyokeres who is also on the wishlist of rivals Arsenal who are in desperate need of attacking reinforcement.

Gyokeres has been on fire since moving to Sporting CP in the summer of 2023. He has established himself as one of the best forwards in the world and has been scoring goals for fun. The 26-year-old has 32 goals and six assists in his 30 outings and his consistency in front of goal has put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe.

Arsenal keen on signing Gyokeres

Arsenal are one of the clubs that have taken note of his performances and would love to have him at their disposal. The Gunners were initially planning to bring in a world-class forward in the next summer window. But, their plans have been fast-tracked following the ACL injury to Gabriel Jesus.

They lack quality as well as depth in the final third and Mikel Arteta is keen on addressing that issue in the ongoing window. Gyokeres is one of the options that has been discussed internally at the club along with a few other top names.

The Swedish international has a release clause worth £100 million which can be triggered to bring him to North London. While Arsenal would love to negotiate a lower fee, Sporting do not want to lose out on their star striker mid-season after having sanctioned the departure of their manager to Manchester United.

United are confident about winning the race

The Red Devils have also been linked with Gyokeres for some time and the arrival of former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has further improved their chances of signing the 26-year-old. While there is no shortage of interest, the Swedish striker might prefer reuniting with Amorim given the kind of success he has had under him.

The Manchester-based giants might be keen on his signature but they can’t afford to sign him in the ongoing window. But, they are still confident about securing his services because of the strong relationship that they share with Sporting.

This bond has fostered a belief that the former Coventry City star is more likely to move in the summer rather than now. United might not be at their best but there is still a pull of playing at the Old Trafford and people at the club feel all this can help them lure Gyokeres to Manchester next summer.
