Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig have not held talks over a possible winter move for 21-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Arsenal. However, the Gunners have not held talks to sign the RB Leipzig striker, with Bailey’s sources with the Bundesliga club denying suggestions of negotiations between the two European bigwigs.
Meanwhile, the reliable David Ornstein has told the Highbury Squad podcast that the Gunners have no chance of signing the highly-rated striker in the winter transfer window. Meanwhile, Sesko’s agent has also rubbished the same rumours, saying, “I don’t know from where does this story comes. I never talked with Arsenal about loan of Sesko. Sesko is not a player for loans, never a topic for Arsenal or any other club.”
The rise and rise of Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko has been one of the best young strikers in the world in the last few years. The 21-year-old rose in prominence during his spell at Red Bull Salzburg before joining sister club RB Leipzig in July 2023. Since then, the youngster has come leaps and bounds at the Bundesliga club.
The Slovenian international has enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign thus far, contributing 16 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 13 times and providing three assists. Meanwhile, Sesko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Arsenal.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Benjamin Sesko makes sense. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit this month by signing a striker after losing Gabriel Jesus to a season-ending knee injury. In addition, Kai Havertz has blown hot and cold this season, forcing Arsenal to scour the market for a centre-forward.
So, several candidates have emerged on Arsenal’s radar, with Sesko a viable target for the North London club. Recent reports have claimed that the Premier League heavyweights have held talks with RB Leipzig to sign the highly-rated striker. However, Graeme Bailey’s sources at the Bundesliga club have denied suggestions that the two European bigwigs have discussed a deal.
Meanwhile, it will not be surprising to see Arsenal revisiting the interest in the 21-year-old Slovenian international in the summer transfer window. However, it will be interesting to see who becomes the North London club’s top striker target this month.
