West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 31-year-old Belgian international Michy Batshuayi on loan from Galatasaray in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Aksam, Michy Batshuayi is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window. So, the Galatasaray forward has emerged as a target, with the East London outfit aiming to seal a loan deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Michy Batshuayi and his frustrating career
Michy Batshuayi has been the quintessential journeyman for most of his professional career. A native of Brussels, he spent his formative years in Belgium, passing through the academies at five clubs and graduating from the youth division at Standard Liege. The experienced striker rose in prominence during his spell with Marseille before Chelsea came calling.
However, Batshuayi endured a frustrating spell with Chelsea and embarked on multiple loan stints before moving to Turkiye in 2021. Since then, the 31-year-old has represented three of the biggest Turkish clubs, turning out for Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray, with the latest move coming in the summer transfer window.
The 56-cap Belgian international has been in and out of the starting lineup, managing only 811 minutes of game time across 27 appearances while chipping in with seven goals and two assists. However, Batshuayi’s stock in the market is reasonably high, with West Ham United among his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.
London return on the horizon?
West Ham United’s interest in Michy Batshuayi is surprising yet understandable. While the veteran striker has blown hot and cold throughout his professional career, the Hammers do not have recognised strikers in the squad apart from Danny Ings. So, several candidates, including Jhon Duran, have emerged on West Ham’s radar.
However, Batshuayi will be a low-cost, low-risk signing for West Ham in the winter transfer window. The Hammers do not want a permanent deal and will look to sign the 56-cap Belgian international on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 31-year-old might feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League after his frustrating stints with Chelsea and Crystal Palace. So, it will be interesting to see if he returns to England by joining West Ham in the coming days.
