West Ham United set to make approach for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

West Ham United will likely approach fellow Premier League club Everton over a possible move for 27-year-old English international Dominic Calvert-Lewin this month.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are scouring the market for a striker heading into the second half of the winter transfer window after losing Niclas Fullkrug to a hamstring injury. So, they are mulling over contacting Everton over a possible move for the English international this month.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and his Everton rollercoaster

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has blown hot and cold throughout his spell with Everton. A native of Sheffield, the Englishman has been with the Merseyside club since arriving from Sheffield United in August 2016. While he has enjoyed phases where he has been among the most prolific strikers in the Premier League, his performance levels have dropped in recent seasons.

The 27-year-old has turned out over 250 times thus far for Everton while chipping in with 70 goals and 19 assists. However, Calvert-Lewin faces an uncertain future at Goodison Park after entering the final six months of his contract with the Merseyside outfit.

The English striker’s contract situation has piqued the attention of several foreign clubs that can open talks with him regarding a Bosman move this summer. However, a move across the Premier League might be on the cards in the winter transfer window, with West Ham United vying for his signature.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin is understandable. Danny Ings is the only recognised striker in Graham Potter’s squad, with Niclas Fullkrug recovering from a long-term hamstring injury and Michail Antonio at home recovering from injuries he sustained in a car accident.

So, the Hammers need a new striker in the winter transfer window, with Calvert-Lewin emerging as a viable target. West Ham might soon approach Everton regarding a possible winter move for Calvert-Lewin, with the Englishman’s name on the East London club’s wishlist.

Widespread reports have linked the 27-year-old English striker with European bigwigs like Atalanta, AC Milan, Sevilla, and Real Betis, among others. So, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat the competition to the signature of the Everton forward.
