Manchester United’s indecisiveness in Patrick Dorgu’s pursuit opens the door for Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.
Patrick Dorgu’s sensational rise at Lecce has put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe. The Serie A outfit are going to find it very difficult to keep hold of the Danish sensation for long.
Manchester United are one of the clubs that are keen on acquiring his services. But, according to a report from CaughtOffside, the Red Devils haven’t made a move yet and if they are too slow they might end up losing him to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham who are keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old.
Dorgu has gone from strength to strength since joining the Italian outfit. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2023 and has already established himself as one of their mainstays.
While the majority of his appearances this season have come as a right-winger, he can feature in any role on either flank. His impressive rise and consistent performances along with his versatility have resulted in interest from European giants.
His contract at Lecce runs until the summer of 2029 but he is unlikely to be around for long. The Italian outfit value him at around €50 million and an offer in that region should be good enough.
Manchester United are in the market for a new left wing-back and Dorgu could be just the perfect fit for them. Ruben Amorim wants someone who can contribute towards both ends of the pitch and given his potential, the 20-year-old could be a great acquisition for the short as well as the long run.
Rival clubs could cause problems for United
While United scouts have monitored him in recent games, they are yet to make a move giving the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham to steal a march in the pursuit of his signature. All three rival clubs have been closely monitoring.
Marc Cucurella is putting in impressive performances for Chelsea of late but he isn’t that reliant and Dorgu could give much-needed competition. Meanwhile, he is an ideal fit for their project that revolves around signing the best young stars.
With Andrew Robertson not getting any younger, Liverpool could invest in someone like the Danish international for the long run. Spurs are also in need of a new full-back with Destiny Udogie out injured and Sergio Reguion’s contract running out in six months’ time. Dorgu could not only strengthen the defensive side of things, he could even contribute in the final third when needed.
