Manchester United face Real Madrid battle for Nuno Mendes, set to step up interest

Manchester United prepared to cough up €20 million to re-sign Alvaro Fernandez Carreras.

Manchester United will have to battle it out with Spanish giants Real Madrid for the signature of PSG defensive sensation Nuno Mendes.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United are looking to step up their interest in the services of Paris Saint-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes. The Red Devils want to accelerate transfer talks amidst growing interest from Real Madrid.

Mendes has only gone from strength to strength since moving to PSG in 2021. He has established himself as one of the best young full-backs and with his contract running out in 2026, multiple top clubs are looking to add him to their squad.

Manchester United want to sign Mendes

Manchester United are one of the clubs that are quite keen on signing the 22-year-old full-back. Ruben Amorim wants to bring in a new left-sided full-back on a priority basis given the injury history of Luke Shaw and the fact that Tyrell Malacia was also out injured for a long time.

He wants a very attack-minded player on the left flank, someone who is comfortable playing as a wing-back and has identified Mendes as his top target. The Red Devils are in talks to sign him from PSG and they are looking to accelerate those talks.

Real Madrid to rival United

But, they are not the only club that wants to sign the Portuguese international as Real Madrid are also keen on his signature. Los Blancos want to bring in a new left-back someone who is an upgrade on Ferland Mendy.

While Alphonso Davies is their top target, they are looking to walk away from him as the Canadian could end up signing an extension at Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Mendes has all the qualities the team in white are looking for.

However, United seem to be the most advanced in the race for his signature. But, they haven’t had any breakthroughs in negotiations so far as PSG are holding out on a massive asking price of €65 million despite him having just 18 months left on his deal.

The race for Mendes’ services is wide open with Real Madrid and United ready to square up against each other. Meanwhile, PSG haven’t lost all hope yet as he could still pen an extension.
