Aston Villa monitoring Marc Pubill as an alternative to Oscar Mingueza

Aston Villa are monitoring alternative right-back names such as Marc Pubill in the scenario that they fail to land top target Oscar Mingueza.

According to Diario de Almeria via Sport Witness, Marc Pubill has emerged as a viable alternative for Aston Villa. The Premier League sides are keen on recruiting a player in the position and have been heavily linked with Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza, with Pubill now seen as an alternative option should they fail to land the former.

Aston Villa are working hard behind the scenes to secure a top draw right-back for their squad this month. Unai Emery feels the position needs strengthening following their failure to sign Lutsharel Geertruida last summer, and now they are looking at a number of players.

Reports have heavily linked Villa to Oscar Mingueza of Celta Vigo, with the suggestion that director Monchi was present to watch their recent game against Rayo Vallecano. Emery feels that Mingueza could help with the position if it were to be strengthened, although there are some visible doubts in their pursuit.

The report states an interest from AC Milan, a club that Mingueza would prefer to join, while also suggesting that Celta Vigo might even prefer to do business with RB Leipzig. For now, there are no credible sources to verfy both those links, meaning Villa’s pursuit might still be ongoing for Mingueza.

Other names are being considered by Villa, and all of those are from La Liga. There’s another name that has cropped up, as Almeria’s Marc Pubill emerged as a viable alternative for Mingueza. The right-back has been impressing with the Spanish side this season, and Villa are certainly on the case as per the story.

Pubill won the Olympic Gold with Spain in Paris during the summer and has seen a solid rise in his stature ever since. There were clubs keen to sign him back then, including Barcelona, although he chose to stay at Almeria. The right-back has a €40 million release clause. While initial demands could see the La Liga 2 side demand very close to that sum, Villa could potentially reduce it if they enter into negotiations early.

The €40 million-rated Olympics 2024 gold medalist is certainly seen as an alternative to Mingueza, although the latter remains their top target. As things stand, Villa are not backing away from their need to sign a right-back, as there’s a wider expectation that the club will land one in this window, be it Mingueza, Pubill or someone else altogether.
