Marc Guehi wages poised to block Chelsea return this month

Chelsea might not succeed in re-signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace due to his wages, as he might look for £200,000-a-week wages to return to Stamford Bridge.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Manchester United. However, a winter move will unlikely see the light of day, as the Crystal Palace defender will likely command £200,000-a-week wages. In addition, the South London club will demand over £50 million to part ways with the English international in the winter transfer window.

The rise and rise of Marc Guehi

Marc Guehi has been among the most dependable defenders in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in July 2021. The Englishman has gone from strength to strength in the last three and a half years, starting as a regular at the back before becoming ever-present and the team’s skipper.

The 24-year-old has also made his mark in international football, becoming a regular for England in the last 12 months. Meanwhile, Guehi has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with seven goals and three assists.

The player’s contract situation has left the Eagles in a spot of bother as he has entered the final 18 months of his deal. The English defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Crystal Palace captain, with Chelsea among his prospective suitors.

Fairytale homecoming on the cards?

Chelsea’s interest in re-signing Marc Guehi is understandable. The Blues have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the winter transfer window. Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are on the sidelines, and Enzo Maresca wants a top-notch central defensive partner for Levi Colwill.

So, Guehi has emerged as a viable target, with the Englishman keen on rejoining Chelsea. However, a winter move will unlikely see the light of day due to the player’s wages. The Crystal Palace captain will command around £200,000-a-week wages at his next club.

Meanwhile, despite being uninterested in selling the 24-year-old English international, Crystal Palace will demand at least £50 million to part ways with him. So, those factors will block Guehi’s winter move to Chelsea, with the West London outfit having a strict wage structure.
