Arsenal will reportedly compete with Inter Milan and Napoli to sign 28-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Pellegrini from AS Roma.
According to a report by La Repubblica, as relayed by giallorossi.net, Lorenzo Pellegrini is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are in a three-way battle to land the AS Roma captain, with Serie A giants Inter Milan and Napoli also vying for the signature of the 28-year-old midfielder. The Giallorossi will be open to parting ways with the club captain this month.
Lorenzo Pellegrini and his topsy-turvy AS Roma ride
Lorenzo Pellegrini has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining AS Roma from Sassuolo in July 2017. A native of Rome, he spent his formative years in his hometown and graduated from the youth division at AS Roma but had to make his mark at Sassuolo before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at Stadio Olimpico.
The 28-year-old has turned out over 300 times thus far for AS Roma while chipping in with 55 goals and 58 assists. Pellegrini has served the Giallorossi as the club captain since Edin Dzeko departed from Stadio Olimpico but has blown hot and cold in recent seasons.
Nevertheless, the Italian midfielder’s stock in the market remains high, with Serie A giants Inter Milan and Napoli vying for his signature this month. In addition, Arsenal will look to sign the AS Roma captain in the winter transfer window.
London calling?
Lorenzo Pellegrini has been on the radar of Premier League clubs for several years, but a deal has never seen the light of day. However, Arsenal’s interest in the AS Roma captain makes sense, considering Thomas Partey faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. In addition, Jorginho has entered the final six months of his contract with the North London club.
So, Arsenal should invest in a midfielder, with the versatile Pellegrini emerging as a viable target. In addition, the Italian international’s leadership qualities make him an appealing option for the Premier League heavyweights.
However, the Gunners face stiff competition from Inter Milan and Napoli, with the former weighing up offering Davide Frattesi in the deal to sign the 28-year-old midfielder from AS Roma. It will be interesting to see where Pellegrini lands, with AS Roma ready to cash in on him this month.
