Manchester United academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are expected to continue at the club amidst exit links.
Ruben Amorim has not really had the best of starts at Manchester United. The team has not been able to adapt to his style of play, and they have suffered quite a few defeats. They are in desperate need of reinforcement but will have to part ways with some of their key players to raise funds.
Academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been linked with a move away from the club amidst their concerns regarding Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules. But, according to a report from Sky Sports, Manchester United are not looking to sell Mainoo or Garnacho to comply with financial rules.
Garnacho was dropped from the squad for the derby against Manchester City by Amorim, and all his subsequent appearances since have come off the bench. Multiple reports have suggested that he is not an ideal fit for the Portuguese manager’s system and does not share the best of relations with him.
As a result, he has been linked with a move away from the club. Despite recent reports, the 20-year-old winger remains a key part of Manchester United’s first-team setup, and Amorim considers him an important part of his plans going ahead.
Meanwhile, Mainoo has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford amidst Manchester United’s need to raise funds to comply with financial rules. With the 19-year-old an academy graduate, his departure could result in pure profit, which will significantly bolster their financial situation.
The Englishman was reportedly concerned about his future at the club. However, the report from Sky Sports has made it clear that Mainoo has no concerns about his future and that he could soon put pen to paper on a deal. Manchester United are working on his renewal, and he already has a deal that runs until 2027 with an option of another 12 months.
The young defensive midfielder will be one of the key pillars of their project going ahead, and they signed Manuel Ugarte in the summer to help form a reliable partnership with the English international.
While the Manchester-based club do need to be realistic over their PSR and FFP situation, they have made it clear that they are not looking to sell Mainoo or Garnacho.
