Newcastle United have added Wolfsburg stopper Kamil Grabara to their list of goalkeeping targets as Eddie Howe looks to replace Martin Dubravka.
According to Caught Offside, Wolfsburg stopper Kamil Grabara emerged as a target for Newcastle United as Eddie Howe seeks competition for No.1 choice Nick Pope. The Magpies are also about to see Martin Dubravka leave for Saudi Arabia as soon as a replacement arrives, as the Polish international is one of the names being considered.
Newcastle United have had a lot of problems at the back with defensive injuries as well as that to first choice keeper Nick Pope. The England international’s absence has allowed deputy Martin Dubravka to play regularly in recent times and has helped the Magpies to six straight victories in all competitions.
Saudi side Al-Shabab have been in talks with Dubravka since last month, and the injury to Pope, as well as a lack of other options, have paused any move to the Middle East. It appears that he will move on once Pope returns or a replacement is found, as the magpies are eager to cash in on the veteran before his contract runs out in the summer.
Eddie Howe prefers James Trafford, although with Burnley seeking to gain promotion back to the Premier League as well as what they might demand, a move right now looks doubtful for the former Manchester City talent.
Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher was also considered earlier, but the likelihood of the Irish international moving mid-season is thought to be doubtful. A summer move might materialise for the stopper, although Newcastle United are looking for an immediate solution, as Wolfsburg’s Kamil Grabara emerged on their list.
Newcastle United to sign Kamil Grabara?
A move is nowhere close to being finalised, although the Magpies are looking at the former Liverpool player as a potential option to replace Dubravka. The Bundesliga side might not have too much power to stop the player from leaving should he decide to, although much will depend on how much they will demand from Newcastle United for the Polish international.
Grabara has been one of the key players in this Wolfsburg side this season, as the club will likely look to profit off their £10 million investment in the stopper. Compared to the other targets, the former Liverpool player might still be a cheaper alternative for Howe to consider, as he does have the capacity to compete or cover for Pope.
