Chelsea weigh up winter move for Marc Guehi

Chelsea will reportedly look to re-sign 24-year-old English international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on reinforcing their central defensive options in the winter transfer window. So, the West London club might aim to re-sign the English international from Crystal Palace this month.

The rise of Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in a deal worth £18 million in July 2021. The Englishman did not have the opportunity to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge. So, he moved on and made his mark at Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for the South London club, with his exploits helping him become a regular for England. Guehi has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with seven goals and three assists.

Meanwhile, Guehi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs. Newcastle United attempted to sign the English international in the summer transfer window, while recent reports have linked him with Liverpool. However, a move to Chelsea might be on the cards this month.

Special homecoming on the cards?

Chelsea’s interest in Marc Guehi makes sense. The Blues have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the winter transfer window after losing Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile in recent weeks. So, they are considering their options this month, with recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell with Crystal Palace also an option.

In addition, Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo are on Chelsea’s wishlist. However, the Blues are weighing up re-signing Guehi from Crystal Palace before the winter transfer window shuts down. The moves for the Englishman might not be realistic, considering the Eagles have been reluctant sellers midway through a season.

Nevertheless, Chelsea will attempt to bring the 24-year-old English international back to Stamford Bridge. It will be interesting to see if they can convince the South London club to part ways with Guehi this month.
