Bayern Munich want to beat Manchester United to Viktor Gyokeres

Bayern Munich will reportedly look to steal a march on Manchester United in the race to secure the services of 26-year-old Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to a report by Daily Star, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants have initiated the discussions to sign the Sporting CP striker, with the Primeira Liga champions valuing him at around £80 million. Meanwhile, the Swedish international is also a target for Manchester United.

The rapid rise of Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting CP

Viktor Gyokeres has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The Swede was already a productive striker during his spell in the EFL Championship. However, few might have foreseen an effortless jump to the Primeira Liga.

The 26-year-old has not looked back since joining Sporting CP, scoring goals for fun in the last 18 months. Gyokeres has continued his exceptional run this term, finding the back of the net 30 times and providing six assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Gyokeres has not only been prolific for Sporting CP but has also taken that form to his national team. Meanwhile, the Swedish striker’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. The player has been a target for Manchester United for a long time, with Bayern Munich joining the race to secure his services.

A man in demand

Manchester United’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres makes sense. While Rasmus Hojlund is one for the future and has shown promise since arriving from Atalanta 18 months ago, he has not been consistent enough. So, with Joshua Zirkzee struggling to make his mark, Manchester United need a prolific striker, making the Sporting CP star a viable target.

As for Bayern Munich, Harry Kane is on the wrong side of 30, while Mathys Tel faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena. So, Gyokeres is an option worth considering for Bayern Munich, even though Kane is at his peak. The Bavarian giants have opened talks to sign the Swede, with Sporting CP valuing him at around £80 million.

A winter move will unlikely see the light of day, while Sporting CP’s asking price of £80 million will complicate matters for Bayern Munich and Manchester United. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the 26-year-old Swedish international.
