Newcastle United and West Ham United keen on Kevin Danso

Newcastle United and West Ham United are both interested in acquiring the services of RC Lens centre-back Kevin Danso.

Kevin Danso could be on the move in the ongoing transfer winow given the amount of interest in his services. According to a report from CaughtOffside, Newcastle United and West Ham United are both keen on signing the RC Lens centre-back as they look to add more depth as well as quality to their backline mid-seasons.

Danso joined the French club in the summer of 2021 from FC Augsburg and he has only gone from strength to strength since making that switch. He has been a consistent performer for Lens and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The 26-year-old Austrian international has been one of the standout performers for Lens this season. He has been involved in a total of 14 matches so far and has put in some impressive shifts. While he still has over two years left on his deal at Lens, Danso is seen as a budget friendly option to bolster their backline by multiple top clubs.

The Ligue 1 outfit could agree to sell him for a fee of around €25-30 million. While clubs from across Europe are keen on his signature, Danso could be heading back to the Premier League amidst interest from Newcastle and West Ham.

Danso could return to England

Having had a stint at Southampton back in the day, the Austrian defender is well aware of how things work in England. The Magpies wanted to add more depth to their backline during the summer. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it happen back then.

But, Eddie Howe is now keen on signing another centre-back to bolster their chances of making it into the top four. They see Danso as an ideal fit for their system, a player who will add more quality to their team without costing a fortune.

While the Tyneside club are working on a potential transfer, the Hammers could rival them in their pursuit. They have been struggling under new boss Julen Lopetegui and are in desperate need of some reinforcement. Danso could help them steer clear of the drop zone.

The 26-year-old will surely see the Newcastle project as a more tempting option but it will be interesting to see how the negotiations move forward.
