Fiorentina are favourites to re-sign their academy graduate Federico Chiesa who has not had the best of times since joining Liverpool.
Federico Chiesa could part ways with Liverpool just six months after joining them as he looks to regain his lost prominence. There is a significant amount of interest in him from Italy and according to a report from Fichajes, Fiorentina are front-runners in the race for his signature.
Chiesa was a part of the Fiorentina setup for around 13 years. He joined them back in 2007 and went up the ranks at some pace. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2016 and made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances.
His huge potential along with his consistency helped the 27-year-old secure a move to Juventus towards the end of 2020. While it was an initial loan deal, it eventually became permanent. Chiesa had an impressive start to life at the Turin-based club.
He was an instant hit at his new club and even played a massive part in Italy’s triumph at Euro 2020. While the versatile forward seemed destined for greatness, injuries derailed his progress. He was often out injured and eventually became surplus to requirements at Juventus.
Federico Chiesa’s failed Liverpool move
They ended up selling him to Liverpool in the summer for a cut-price fee. The Merseyside club saw it as an opportunity to bet on the Italian international who still has a lot of years left in his career. Unfortunately, the move hasn’t really worked out.
Not only has he spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines, but the former Juventus winger hasn’t had enough opportunities at his new club even when fit. He doesn’t seem to be an important part of Arne Slot’s plans.
A return to Italy in January
As a result, Chiesa is keen on parting ways with the Reds in search of a more prominent role elsewhere. He wants to revive his career and is pushing for a winter move. There is a significant amount of interest in him from Italy and he could end up returning to the Serie A soon.
Fiorentina are the ones leading the race for his signature. They want to bring back their academy graduate as they look to add more firepower to their squad. They fighting for a top-four spot and a quality forward like Chiesa can surely bolster their chances. They are already in negotiations to bring him back and it will be interesting to see if they can strike a deal with the Merseyside club.
